Who is John Trenchard? DP World New Sustainability Leader for Europe
John Trenchard, Vice President of Sustainable International Supply Chains for Europe at DP World
DP World has announced a major leadership change as John Trenchard steps into his new role as Vice President for Sustainable International Supply Chains in Europe. This new appointment is part of DP World’s mission to expand its green logistics efforts across the continent.
John previously led the UK’s supply chain and commercial strategy at DP World for four years. His work focused on enhancing sustainability at key UK ports like London Gateway and Southampton, which handle nearly 50% of the country’s container traffic. Now, his focus shifts to an even larger stage — all of Europe.
In a statement on LinkedIn, John shared his excitement: “After four very enjoyable years with DP World in the UK, it’s time to embark on the next adventure… In this new position, my focus will be on exploring, developing and offering customers an expanded range of more sustainable options for their international supply chains in the European Region. The journey ahead looks incredibly exciting!”
A Greener Future for European Trade
The move reflects DP World’s increased push for environmental accountability in its global logistics network. In his new role, John will oversee efforts such as:
Hydrogen-powered trucks
Dual-fuel shipping vessels
Electrified fleet and port infrastructure
Modal shift from road to rail
Carbon inset programmes to reduce Scope 3 emissions
Unlike his UK role, which was port-specific, his new responsibilities cover cross-border logistics and multimodal trade networks across different countries and regulations.
Nicholas Mazzei, Vice President of Sustainability at DP World, praised the decision: “John is able to sell sustainable products better than anyone… If you want to make your supply chain more sustainable and are looking for an end-to-end supply chain business to help, reach out to John!”
Driving Impact Beyond Borders
John has already made a name for himself in the sustainability space. Speaking at the recent Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE: Sustainability 2025 event, he acknowledged the logistics industry’s dual role: “We are probably part of the problem, but hopefully, we can be part of the solution as well.”
Some key stats he highlighted include:
Supply chains contribute 10–12% of global CO₂
Maritime shipping alone adds 2–3%
DP World UK has reduced over 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ since 2023
Truck miles cut by over 8 million through modal shifts
His efforts through carbon insetting programmes could cut 10,000 tonnes of emissions this year — if just half of DP World customers join in.
The company isn’t slowing down. In 2024, DP World reported:
US$20 billion in revenue
15% emission reduction since 2022
65% renewable electricity usage
Climate goals certified by the Science Based Targets initiative
With over 50,000 employees across six continents, DP World’s green transition is in full force. John Trenchard’s new European leadership role strengthens the company’s ambitions to make sustainable trade a global reality.
