Jim Parsons, best known for his iconic role as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, is married to Todd Spiewak. The couple tied the knot in May 2017 at the Rainbow Room in New York City after being together for over a decade.
Why They Delayed Marriage
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Parsons explained their reason for waiting: “We just didn’t care about the act of it that much, to be honest with you. That sounds cold in a way, but I finally thought: ‘Well, let’s have a party then for the celebration, and we’ll go ahead and legalize this thing.’”
Reflecting on their big day, he added, “It was so much more meaningful in the moment for me than I predicted, and it’s been resonantly much more meaningful than for me afterward than I ever saw coming.”
What Does Todd Spiewak Do?
Todd Spiewak is an executive producer. He’s known for producing shows like Young Sheldon, Special, Call Me Kat, and First in Human. In 2015, he and Parsons co-founded That’s Wonderful Productions. Spiewak is also an active LGBTQ+ advocate, and the couple received GLSEN’s Inspiration Award for their efforts.
How They Met
The couple met in 2002 through a blind date at a karaoke bar. As Spiewak recalled in Inside the Actors Studio, “My boss and Jim’s best friend from grad school were friends, two women, and they hooked us up. They were with us on the first date, so we weren’t alone.”
Public Acknowledgement
Though Parsons publicly confirmed their relationship in 2012 via a New York Times profile without naming Spiewak, the two had already appeared together at multiple high-profile events. Parsons also mentioned him in his Emmy acceptance speech.
