Who Is Yusuf Sharif aka KGF Babu? Man Driving Amitabh & Aamir’s Rolls-Royces Now in Tax Trouble

24 July, 2025 14:05

Yusuf Sharif, a Bengaluru-based realtor and politician, is once again making headlines. Known widely as KGF Babu, he’s famous for his flashy cars and luxury lifestyle. This time, though, it’s not for his wealth—but for dodging road tax on two famous Rolls-Royces.

Bollywood Cars, Bengaluru Roads

On Wednesday, the Karnataka transport department raided Sharif’s lavish home in Vasanthnagar, Bengaluru. They were acting on proof that Sharif had been driving two Rolls-Royce cars registered in Maharashtra well beyond the legal limit.

Both cars had once belonged to Bollywood legends:

  • A Rolls-Royce Phantom (MH 02 BB 0002), earlier owned by Amitabh Bachchan

  • A Rolls-Royce Ghost (MH 11 AX 0001), bought from Aamir Khan

These luxury cars have been used regularly on Bengaluru roads without paying local road taxes, which has now landed Sharif in trouble.

Rs 38.3 Lakh in Tax Dues

According to officials, these vehicles exceeded the one-year grace period allowed for out-of-state vehicles. Once that period ends, the owner must pay lifetime road tax in Karnataka.

  • For the Phantom: ₹19.8 lakh

  • For the Ghost: ₹18.5 lakh

  • Total Tax Paid: ₹38.3 lakh

The Phantom had already been caught once in 2021. At that time, officials briefly seized it and fined Sharif ₹5,500. However, the issue was quietly settled. Now, new surveillance footage and movement logs gave authorities fresh evidence.

Sharif’s Side of the Story

Sharif admitted he had made a mistake. “I didn’t know I had to pay tax again in Karnataka,” he said. “I already paid ₹50 lakh and ₹35 lakh as lifetime tax in Maharashtra.”

He added that the cars are shared between Mumbai and Bengaluru, each spending around 15 days per month in both cities. He also said officials arrived without warning but were respectful and explained the rules. “I paid the amount the same day,” he claimed. “I request others with out-of-state cars to check and pay their dues.”

KGF Babu: From Streets to Spotlight

Yusuf Sharif is no stranger to the spotlight. Known for his rags-to-riches journey, he earned the nickname “KGF Babu” after the blockbuster film for his dramatic rise and larger-than-life lifestyle.

  • He started in Mumbai’s metal scrap business.

  • Later, he moved into real estate and politics in Karnataka.

  • His life often makes headlines—be it for land disputes or luxury purchases.

This recent road tax issue once again highlights Sharif’s flamboyant public life. But it also brings attention to an important rule: If you own a vehicle registered in another state and use it for more than 12 months, you must pay local tax.

Yusuf Sharif may love his Bollywood cars, but now, it seems even Rolls-Royces can’t outrun tax laws.
