Who Is Daniyal Shahzad? Pakistani Student Wins Bronze Medal at International Physics Olympiad 2025

Daniyal Shahzad Hamid, a bright student from The Science School, T Chowk, GT Road, Rawat, Islamabad, has made Pakistan proud by winning a Bronze Medal at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in France from July 17 to 25, 2025.

This international competition gathers top high school physics students from around the world, and Daniyal’s victory marks a major achievement for Pakistan in the field of science.

More Honours for Team Pakistan

Daniyal was not the only star from Pakistan. Two other participants were also recognized:

• Muhammad Bilal from Sundar STEM School, Lahore, received an Honorable Mention.

• Eiman Fatima from Fazaia Inter College, PAF Base Nur Khan, Rawalpindi, was awarded the Thales Solidarity IPhO Award, which includes a €5,000 education grant and one-year mentorship in science and technology.

Training the Future of Science

The Pakistani team was selected and trained under the STEM Careers Program, a joint initiative by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).

• The team was mentored by Prof. Dr. Shahid Qamar and Dr. Muhammad Irfan, both affiliated with PIEAS.

• PIEAS also hosts the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC), a yearly competition to find the country’s best students in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.

Pakistan’s Growing Success in Science Olympiads

Since joining the International Physics Olympiad in 2001, Pakistan has:

• Sent over 365 students to international contests.

• Won 139 medals.

• Conducted more than 240 training camps, helping over 4,500 students.

This growing list of achievements shows Pakistan’s serious investment in nurturing young scientific talent.
