After Sunjay Kapur’s wife, Priya Sachdeva, changed her Instagram name to Priya Sunjay Kapur following his death, his stepdaughter Safira has also removed her surname “Chatwal” from her Instagram profile. This move hints at the ongoing family tensions, although it has not been officially confirmed.

Who Is Safira?

Safira is the daughter of Priya Sachdeva and her first husband, Vikram Chatwal. Born in 2007, Safira’s parents divorced in 2011. After that, Priya married Sunjay Kapur, who later legally adopted Safira, making her his legal heir.

In 2018, Priya and Sunjay had a son named Azarius. The family shared happy moments on social media. Safira, now 19, is studying at Marlborough College in England. She is interested in geopolitics and international relations.

Will Safira Inherit From Sunjay Kapur?

The inheritance dispute raises the question of Safira’s share. Indian law generally does not grant inheritance rights to stepchildren unless legally adopted. Since Sunjay adopted Safira, she has the right to inherit from him equally with his biological children.

However, if Safira is legally adopted by Sunjay, she may lose the right to inherit from her biological father Vikram Chatwal.

What About Karisma Kapoor and Her Kids?

Sunjay Kapur was previously married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2006. They have two children: Samaira and Kiaan.

A family source told ETimes that Karisma Kapoor is not involved in the inheritance matters. Priya, being Sunjay’s legal wife at the time of his death, holds a major part of the wealth due to the lack of a will. However, Karisma’s children will still receive their rightful share.
