His father, now 45, has spent more than a decade in and out of prison. One of the most serious incidents happened on Christmas Eve 2021, when he broke into an elderly man’s house. He made noise that woke the man up, stole his car keys from the dining table, and drove away.

John Edward Kay was sentenced in January 2023 to two and a half years in jail. The judge described the break-in as a “terrifying ordeal” for the elderly man.
