Who is Reba McEntire? What is her relationship with Brandon Blackstock

Famous country singer Reba McEntire, often called the Queen of Country, is going through a heartbreaking time. Her stepson, Brandon Blackstock, passed away on August 7, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was only 48 years old.

Even though Reba and Brandon were not related by blood, they shared a very close and loving bond. Reba stayed like a mother to him, even after her divorce from his father.

How Reba Met Brandon Blackstock

Reba met Narvel Blackstock, a former steel guitar player and music manager, in the late 1980s. He became her manager, and the two fell in love. They got married in 1989 in a private boat ceremony at Lake Tahoe.

Narvel already had a son, Brandon Blackstock, from a previous relationship. When Reba married Narvel, Brandon became a part of her life too. Later in 1990, Reba and Narvel had a son together named Shelby Blackstock. But Reba’s care for Brandon remained strong and never changed.

Reba and Narvel’s Divorce Didn’t Change Her Bond with Brandon

Reba and Narvel ended their marriage in 2015, after 26 years together. However, her relationship with Brandon stayed the same. She continued to love and support him like a mother.

In interviews, Reba shared that she wished they could spend more time together, but their busy lives made it difficult. She once said:

“We don’t get to see each other as much as we used to, and I hate that.”

Reba’s Support for Brandon and Kelly Clarkson

Brandon was married to singer Kelly Clarkson, and Reba always supported both of them. Even after their divorce, Reba kept a close friendship with Kelly.

Kelly once said that Reba’s love felt genuine, and Reba spoke kindly about them both:
