Who Is Minta Devi? The 124-Year-Old 'Voter' From Bihar
A strange name on Biharβs voter list has sparked a major political storm. The Opposition is now protesting against what they call large-scale voter fraud. At the center of this row is βMinta Devi,β whose age is recorded as 124 years in the stateβs draft voter list.
Who Is Minta Devi?
On Tuesday, leaders of the INDIA bloc continued their protest outside the Election Commission. Many of them, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wore white T-shirts with Minta Deviβs photo. On the back, the shirts read, β124 Not Out.β
The protest began after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi revealed the voter list issue during a public speech. He said that fake entries like Minta Deviβs name prove that there are serious problems in Biharβs electoral roll. βIf her age is correct, she is even older than the worldβs oldest living person,β Rahul claimed.
Congress MP KC Venugopal mocked the Election Commission on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote that the ECI had βdiscovered the oldest living humanβ and called it proof of βmega voter fraud.β He said the INDIA bloc will keep protesting until the problem is fixed.
INDIA bloc leaders also made sarcastic remarks about the age record. One post said, β124-year-old Minta Devi will vote, and we are still struggling to live long lives through yoga and meditation.β
Manickam Tagore, another Congress MP, said that under the leadership of Rajiv Kumar and Gyanesh Kumar, the Election Commission has βfailed completely.β He claimed that Minta Devi is a βfirst-time voterβ yet her age is listed as 124. He accused the BJP of benefiting from the fake voter list.
The Opposition is now demanding a debate in Parliament. They want immediate changes in the voter list before the next elections to make sure the process is fair.
