North Korea may already be preparing its next leader — Kim Ju-Ae, the daughter of Kim Jong-Un, is being closely watched by experts as his likely successor. Though just around 12 years old, she has appeared in public many times with her father, often at important military events.
Reports from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) and global analysts suggest that Kim Ju-Ae is being groomed to one day lead the secretive, nuclear-armed country.
Public Appearances Since 2022
Kim Ju-Ae made her first public appearance in November 2022, walking hand-in-hand with her father near a long-range missile. Since then, she has been seen at military parades, missile launches, and even ceremonies with top generals.
The North Korean media never speaks her name. They simply call her “most beloved” or “respected daughter.” She has never spoken in public and has no official title. But her presence next to top military officials sends a strong message — she may be next in line to rule.
A Shift in Her Image
At first, Ju-Ae appeared shy. But recent images show her more confident and composed. She now stands next to generals, visits military sites, and appears during national events. In one 2023 military parade, a general was even seen kneeling before her, something only done for her father, Kim Jong-Un.
Why Is Kim Jong-Un Choosing Her?
South Korea’s intelligence believes Kim Jong-Un has at least two or three children, but only Ju-Ae has been seen in public. Experts think she might be the chosen one because of her confidence, public presence, and possibly due to her father’s growing health concerns.
Kim Jong-Un is 41 years old, but reportedly suffers from heart problems linked to his family history. His unhealthy lifestyle — including smoking, drinking, and overeating — could affect his ability to rule long term.
A Female Leader in North Korea?
If Ju-Ae does take over, she would become North Korea’s first female leader — a big change in a country where male leadership has always been the norm. However, experts say the goal would still be to keep power within the Kim family.
The Kim dynasty has ruled North Korea since 1948, starting with Kim Il Sung, followed by Kim Jong Il, and now Kim Jong-Un. The possible rise of Ju-Ae marks the fourth generation of this political family.
