Tulip Siddiq, a British Member of Parliament and niece of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been accused of corruption by the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The claims were made during court hearings in Dhaka this week. The allegations relate to the illegal grabbing of valuable land plots near the capital.
What Are the Allegations?
Officials from the ACC told a court on Wednesday that Sheikh Hasina and her family misused their political power to take land illegally. They claim Tulip Siddiq was also involved in the process.
According to the ACC, they have evidence, including letters and official documents, linking Siddiq to the cases. These cases were opened after Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh last year during mass protests.
Tulip Siddiq Responds
Tulip Siddiq has denied all accusations. She resigned as the UK’s Anti-Corruption Minister in January 2025, saying she did not want to serve in that role while being accused of corruption herself.
She has called the legal process in Bangladesh a “farce” and claims she is being targeted for political reasons.
