Jonathan Stamp’s Background

Jonathan studied classical studies at Oxford University. He earned first-class honours. After that, he won a UNESCO International Arts Scholarship and traveled across the Mediterranean.

Jonathan began his career as a journalist. He worked for The Economist. Later, he moved into television. His focus was making history documentaries.

He worked with Channel 4 and then the BBC. Jonathan made around 20 documentaries. His work earned him three Emmy awards. In 2000, he became Director of Development in BBC’s History Department.

By 2002, he was appointed BBC’s Head of Archaeology.

Career Shift to Film and TV Consulting

In 2004, Jonathan left the BBC. He started working as a historical consultant and co-producer on the drama Rome. The show is about the last days of the Roman Republic.

Since then, he has worked on projects with HBO, Showtime, Amazon, Sony, MGM Studios, and Ubisoft (for video games).

He mainly works as a graphic designer and art director in TV and films.

Jonathan is also writing original scripts. These include Ellis, a period drama set in 1902 on Ellis Island, and District IV, a cop show set in ancient Rome.

He finished a feature film script called Lords of Florence. It tells the story of a painting contest between Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
