Musician Michael Franti has responded after the Soulshine at Sea cruise was canceled following serious accusations made against him. The 59-year-old singer admitted to having an affair outside of his marriage seven years ago but firmly denied claims of s*x abuse and grooming by singer Victoria Canal.
Franti released a statement saying that in 2018 he had a “romantic relationship” with an artist who toured with him. He admitted he broke his vows to his wife, Sara Agah Franti, and hurt her deeply. He called it the most regrettable mistake of his life.
Who is Sara Agah Franti?
Michael Franti has been married to Sara Agah Franti, a former emergency room nurse. Today she is a businesswoman and philanthropist. She founded Do It For Love, a San Francisco non-profit that grants wishes to children, veterans, and people with serious illnesses. Sara is also the CEO and co-owner of Soulshine Bali, a sound and wellness resort she runs with her husband.
The couple share two children. Their son, Taj, and a baby born in May 2025. Michael often praises Sara for her compassion and her growth as an entrepreneur.
In his new statement, Franti admitted the affair began during a tour. He said he and the artist had written a song together, and his team offered her a support slot on his shows. Over time, emotions grew and the relationship turned romantic. His wife found out in 2018, and the affair ended. Franti said he and Sara worked hard to rebuild their marriage afterward.
Victoria Canal did not name Franti directly but shared her story online, claiming she was 19 when a powerful figure in the music world discovered her and offered her career opportunities. Many followers linked her words to Franti, which led to public backlash and the cancellation of Soulshine at Sea scheduled for November.
Franti rejected the abuse claims but admitted there was a power imbalance. He said: “I should never have allowed the relationship to become romantic because I was the headliner and she was younger.”
He apologized to his wife, his family, and to Canal for the pain caused. He stressed the relationship was consensual and based on mutual feelings.
The story has shaken both fans and the music community, with many still divided over the accusations and the future of Franti’s projects.
