Who Is Tori Muddyman? Prison Officer Jailed For Smuggling Plot With Inmate

22 August, 2025 15:59

Worcester: A female prison officer has been jailed after she plotted with an inmate to smuggle drugs, alcohol, and mobile phones into a high-security prison.

Tori Muddyman, 31, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was working at HMP Onley in Northamptonshire when she became involved in the illegal scheme. She was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Worcester Crown Court after admitting to conspiracy charges.

Police Tip-Off and Discovery

Police began investigating Muddyman in 2019 after receiving a tip-off that she had been sneaking contraband into the jail.

A search of her garage uncovered a bag filled with cannabis, steroids, tobacco, alcohol, SIM cards, chargers, and a mobile phone.

She later confessed she had been offered £2,500 by a serving prisoner to smuggle the banned items into HMP Onley.

Muddyman admitted she collected a package from a woman at Rugby train station, though she claimed she never delivered it to the prison.

Contraband Found Inside the Jail

Despite her claims, police searched the inmate’s cell and discovered a mobile phone and fake drinks cans packed with drugs.

Further investigations linked bank payments made by the prisoner’s associates to Muddyman.

This evidence confirmed her role in the smuggling plot.

Court Hearing and Sentencing

At Worcester Crown Court on July 25, Muddyman pleaded guilty to:

  • Conspiracy to convey list A articles (drugs) into prison

  • Conspiracy to convey list B articles (phones) into prison

She was jailed for 12 months.

Detective Inspector Richard Cornell, who led the case, said prison officers are trusted to keep institutions safe. He added that Muddyman’s actions undermined security and would have increased criminal activity if the items had entered the prison.

Wider Problems at HMP Onley

The case comes as HMP Onley faces rising drug use and violence. A recent inspection found one-third of drug tests returned positive.

Authorities have introduced new measures, including:

  • Drone prevention technology

  • New accommodation units designed to stop contraband deliveries

  • Incentivised Living wings, where prisoners are drug tested and rewarded for staying clean

The Ministry of Justice admitted that the prison system faces serious challenges but said stronger action is being taken.
