Who is Harneet Singh? Brother of Florida truck driver ID’d as undocumented immigrant
Earlier this month, an Indian man named Harjinder Singh made headlines in the United States after a deadly crash on the Florida Turnpike.
He was driving an 18-wheeler and made an illegal U-turn through an “Official Use Only” access point in St. Lucie County. The reckless move caused a major accident, killing three people on the spot.
A video of the crash quickly spread on social media, showing Harjinder behind the wheel with another man sitting beside him. That man has now been identified as his younger brother, Harneet Singh.
Who is Harjinder Singh?
Harjinder Singh entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 through the Mexico border. He later got a Commercial Driver’s License in California and started working as a truck driver.
Authorities say he has faced immigration issues before. His work permit was rejected under the Trump administration in 2020 but later approved under the Biden administration in 2021.
He was once released from detention in 2019 after posting a $5,000 bond, claiming he feared going back to India. Now, after the Florida accident, Harjinder faces three counts of vehicular homicide and could also face deportation once his criminal trial is over. He was recently extradited back to Florida from California.
Who is Harneet Singh?
Harneet Singh, Harjinder’s 25-year-old brother, was also arrested on August 18, 2025, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Like his brother, he is considered an “illegal alien from India.”
Officials revealed that Harneet had been caught by Border Patrol in 2023 but was later released into U.S. communities. Now, he is in custody and will remain in jail until his removal proceedings are completed. Authorities have not yet clarified what charges, if any, he may face.
What Happens Next?
Both brothers were reportedly on a flight to California after the Florida crash but are now under federal custody. Harjinder is expected to face trial for the deaths caused by the accident, while Harneet awaits deportation.
The case has drawn attention in the U.S. because it highlights issues around illegal immigration, deportation policies, and road safety.
