The name Aleksandra Subotić has once again become the center of public attention. As the director of United Media, she is now presented by N1 and Nova S as a defender of free journalism in Serbia. But critics say her story tells a very different tale.
From Secretary to Business Director
Aleksandra Subotić first appeared in the business world as a secretary in the company Danijel Sat, owned by businessman Danijel Rokvić. Later, she entered Šolak’s business circle. Reports suggest she played a key role in helping Dragan Šolak acquire Rokvić’s company. From then on, Subotić and Šolak became close business partners, and some insiders hint that their ties were even stronger.
Lifestyle and Offshore Companies
Subotić is known for her luxury lifestyle. She reportedly drives an expensive Bentley and has owned companies registered in Panama and later in Malta. According to Telekom Srbija, these companies were used for questionable contracts that allowed millions of euros to be moved out of Net TV since 2013.
Telekom Srbija’s Findings
Vladimir Lučić, the general director of Telekom Srbija, revealed that when his company took over Net TV, they found contracts tied to Subotić’s offshore firms. Lučić claims this money transfer scheme lasted for years.
“When we checked, we saw contracts that were clearly fictitious,” Lučić said. “This shows how money was siphoned away from the company. And this is not about media freedom—it is about business practices.”
He also explained that Subotić’s name is listed as director of United Media, but in reality, legal representatives in Luxembourg and Switzerland manage many of the group’s companies.
Šolak’s Final Battle
These revelations come at a time when Dragan Šolak is fighting to keep control over his financial empire. He already had a major dispute with BC Partners, the main investor in United Group, over a €200 million bonus linked to the sale of SBB.
Observers say this explains why N1 and Nova S are now defending both Šolak and Subotić so aggressively. The aim, critics argue, is not just to defend free media, but also to protect huge financial interests.
Ongoing Questions
The case also raised questions about a secretly recorded conversation between Lučić and United Group director Sten Miler. Media outlets like N1, Nova, and KRIK published the recording. But many now ask: Who made the recording? Who leaked it? And is Šolak behind it?
For now, Aleksandra Subotić continues to hold her position in United Media. But her connections, her past, and the accusations of financial misconduct leave many wondering whether she is truly a protector of free journalism—or a guardian of hidden money flows.
