Who is Claire Byrne’s husband? All about Gerry Scollan

Claire Byrne is known as a no-nonsense TV and radio host who keeps her personal life very private. She rarely talks about her family, but after more than a decade with her husband Gerry Scollan, the couple now share three children together. As Claire prepares to leave RTÉ and join Newstalk in 2026, many are curious about the man beside her.

Background and Education

Gerry Scollan comes from Leitrim and studied at Mohill National School before moving on to St. Mel’s School. Later, he studied at University College Dublin (UCD), where he completed a Bachelor of Science in 1999, followed by a Master’s in Computer Science. Interestingly, Claire also attended UCD at the same time, though their paths didn’t cross back then.

Career

Gerry started his career with Ericsson Ireland and later worked in Australia with Telstra before returning to Ireland. He spent over five years as a Technical Account Manager at Ericsson before joining Microsoft in 2015. Today, he works as a Global Partner Experience and Compliance Lead at the company.

Hobbies

Away from work, Gerry enjoys GAA and is also a passionate cyclist. Every September, he completes a 360km cycle to raise funds for the Laura Lynn Foundation.

Relationship with Claire Byrne

The couple made their first public appearance together in 2012 at the VIP Style Awards. A year later, they got engaged, and in June 2016, they married in a low-key ceremony at the Dublin registry office, followed by a celebration at Angler’s Rest in Chapelizod.

Family Life

Before their wedding, they already had two children, Patrick (born 2014) and Jane (born 2015). Their youngest, Emma, arrived in 2017. Claire has often said Gerry is the calm and steady parent in the house. The family now lives in Wicklow.

Keeping Life Private

Even after many years together, Claire and Gerry keep their relationship mostly out of the spotlight. They are rarely seen at public events, though they recently attended the Dublin premiere of Small Things Like These.
