04 September, 2025 12:30

A man who was found dead in a pool of blood at the Burning Man Festival in Nevada has been identified as Vadim Kruglov, a 37-year-old Russian national. His death has shocked the global Burning Man community and raised serious concerns about safety at the desert gathering.

Missing Before Discovery

Vadim was first reported missing by influencer Sofiia Shcherbakova, who posted an urgent plea online. She explained that his tent and belongings were still at camp, but he had not returned. Her message quickly spread as festivalgoers searched for him.

Tragically, Vadim’s body was discovered on Saturday night around 9:15 pm, the same evening the symbolic “man” effigy was set on fire. Reports state he was found lying in a pool of blood, and his death is being investigated as murder.

Burning Man Organizers Respond

The Burning Man Project issued a statement expressing condolences and pledging support to investigators: “Burning Man Project is doing everything we can to assist the Sheriff’s investigation so the perpetrator can be caught and brought to justice.”

Organizers also announced plans for a coordinated donation to the Secret Witness program, which offers rewards for information that could help solve the case.

Marian Goodell, CEO of Burning Man, added: “We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Kruglov’s loved ones as they prepare to return him home to Russia. We also extend compassion to our wider community of participants, volunteers, and staff alike.”

Who Was Vadim Kruglov?

Although little is publicly known about his personal life, Vadim was a Russian citizen who came to the United States to take part in Burning Man 2024. Friends described him as adventurous and social, someone who embraced the values of freedom and creativity that the event promotes.

His shocking death has cast a shadow over the festival, which usually celebrates art, music, and self-expression in the Nevada desert.

Safety Concerns at Burning Man

Burning Man attracts tens of thousands each year, but its remote desert location makes policing and emergency medical aid difficult. In recent years, the event has also been hit by extreme weather, including dust storms and flooding.

The murder investigation has now sparked a wider conversation about whether more security measures are needed to keep participants safe at future festivals.

For now, the priority is returning Vadim Kruglov’s body to Russia and seeking justice for his tragic death.
