Nigel Farage has admitted he “misspoke” when claiming to have bought a house in Clacton before the last election. The Reform UK leader had previously stated that he purchased the property himself, but later reports revealed it was his partner who made the purchase.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Farage explained: “I should have said ‘we’. All right? My partner bought it, so what?” He added: “It was her money and her asset. I own none of it. But I just happen to spend some time there. I should have rephrased it. I didn’t want … to put her in the public domain.”

The issue resurfaced following Angela Rayner’s resignation on Friday over underpaying stamp duty on a flat purchase earlier this year. At the Reform UK party conference in Birmingham, Mr Farage criticised her resignation, saying it “screams to entitlement.”

When asked about the matter, Reform deputy leader Richard Tice told Times Radio: “I’m pleased to confirm I’m not his tax adviser. You’ll have to speak to them. It’s irrelevant to what voters are concentrating on, which is our messaging, which is the message of hope.”

Separately, questions have been raised over Mr Farage’s use of a private company, Thorn in the Side Ltd, to channel payments from his GB News appearances. Reports suggest he paid corporation tax at 25% on profits rather than the 40% personal rate. Responding, Mr Farage told Sky News: “No, I’m using it legitimately because I run a company that has overheads.”

A spokesperson added: “Thorn in the Side Ltd has traded for 15 years and has a variety of interests. It renders the services of several contractors and is a properly functioning company.”

Mr Farage’s partner, Laure Ferrari, has been linked to him since 2017. Born in Epinal, France, in 1979, she met him in Strasbourg while working as a waitress. Their connection later grew into a political and personal association, though Mr Farage has previously described it as a “working relationship.”
