Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, born on June 1, 1948, is a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and long-time senator. On September 20, 2025, he made headlines again after being confirmed as one of the 12 candidates endorsed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the upcoming 2025 senatorial elections.

Early Life and Education

Ping Lacson was born in Imus, Cavite. He entered the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and graduated in 1971. His early years in the military shaped his discipline and leadership style.

Role in Disaster Rehabilitation

In 2013, after Super Typhoon Yolanda devastated the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino III appointed Lacson as Presidential Assistant on Rehabilitation and Recovery. He oversaw government efforts to rebuild affected communities.

Controversy: The Dacer-Corbito Case

In 2010, Lacson faced murder charges linked to the Dacer-Corbito double murder case. Before the charges were filed, he left the country. The Supreme Court later cleared him after the Court of Appeals dismissed the case. The main witness admitted being pressured to implicate Lacson, which eventually led to his return in 2011.

Personal Life

Ping Lacson is married to Alice de Perio Lacson. They have four children. Outside politics, he is also involved in business. Despite controversies, he has maintained a clean image in public service and is respected for his strict stance on discipline and accountability.
