Who is June Bunyan? Tragic Death of Scottish Lawyer in Los Angeles

Scottish lawyer June Bunyan was found dead in her Los Angeles home. The 37-year-old from Arran suffered severe neck injuries. She had moved to the US to prepare for her bar exams and follow her dream of becoming a defence attorney.

Police later arrested Jonathan Renteria, 25, on suspicion of murder. He was charged with murder, mutilation, disinterment, and sexual contact with human remains. Renteria is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility with bail set at around £3 million.

Who Was June Bunyan?

June grew up on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, and graduated with a law degree from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 2022. Friends described her as a woman with a vibrant personality, infectious laugh, and a compassionate heart.

She had multiple degrees but considered her law degree her proudest achievement. Determined to succeed, she moved to America to pursue her dream career in law.

Family and Friends in Mourning

Her loved ones are now raising funds to bring her body back to Scotland. A fundraiser titled “Help Bring June Bunyan Home” has collected over £5,000 so far, with a target of £10,000.

Her friend Vicky Tulika wrote on the fundraising page:
“June’s life was cut short so far from home. We want to bring her back to the UK so she can be laid to rest with dignity and love, surrounded by her family and friends.”

The fundraiser aims to cover funeral costs, repatriation, and legal expenses.

Tributes and Community Support

Tributes have poured in from friends and colleagues. Many remember her determination, kindness, and passion for law. Some also recalled her love for mixed martial arts, where she was an active fan.

A friend posted on social media:
“For anyone on #MMA Twitter who knew my friend, I’m sorry to announce she was murdered last week. Please donate if you can to bring her home.”

The UK Foreign Office confirmed they are supporting her family and are in touch with US authorities.
