47-year-old Ann-Marie O’Gorman, a mother of three, lost her life in a shocking accident at her home in Santry, Dublin. She was found unresponsive in her bathroom after being electrocuted while holding her charging phone in the bath.
Her husband, Joe O’Gorman, returned home with their youngest daughter Megan around 8 p.m. He called Ann-Marie but received no reply. When he went upstairs, he found her lying on her side in the bath with the phone and charging cable submerged in water.
Husband’s heartbreaking discovery
Joe tried to lift his wife from the bath but felt a small electric shock himself. Emergency services were called, and Ann-Marie was rushed to Beaumont Hospital. Sadly, she was pronounced dead later that day.
A post-mortem revealed that she had suffered burns on her chest and left arm, consistent with electrocution.
Family’s warning about phone safety
At the Dublin District Coroner’s Court, Joe O’Gorman raised concerns about how mobile phone companies advertise their devices. He said that companies create a “false illusion of safety” by promoting phones as waterproof.
He stressed that there are no clear warnings about the dangers of using charging devices near water. Joe called for stronger safety notices so that other families do not suffer the same tragedy.
Community grief
Friends and neighbors described Ann-Marie as a loving mother and devoted wife. The tragedy has shocked the local community, with many sharing their condolences and calling for more awareness about phone safety.
