Love Is Blind’s Nick Amato clarifies his comments on LGBTQIA+ after fan outrage

08 October, 2025 16:09

Love Is Blind season 9 contestant Nick Amato has addressed the controversy surrounding his remarks about the LGBTQIA+ community that aired in the show’s fourth episode.

The backlash began after Nick’s conversation with his fiancée, Annie Lancaster, in which he expressed concerns about raising children who might identify with the LGBTQIA+ community. During the discussion, he referred to their exploration of identity as contributing to a “fad.”

On Friday, October 3, Nick posted a video on Instagram to clarify his comments, explaining that the conversation shown in the episode was “heavily sliced and diced.” He claimed that the segment was edited “to agitate” and insisted he was comfortable being called “shallow” or having his character questioned, but not with promoting a narrative that could “agitate an already marginalized group of people.”

Nick took accountability for his actions, acknowledging that “there was a lot that I didn’t understand.” He explained that his use of the term “fad” referred specifically to “introducing s*xual content and material to kids’ shows at a young age.” He noted that his “traditional” upbringing influenced his perspective and decisions.

Nick elaborated, saying, “If I had a kid that only grew up seeing a prince and princess get married, never was introduced to the idea of two moms or two dads, then yes, I bet they would have to defend themselves and feel really awkward for having gay thoughts if they were gay.” He added that “being gay is perfectly normal,” though he “wasn’t normalized to that” as a child.

Acknowledging the impact of his words, Nick said he felt “deeply impacted” by the criticism and now considers it his responsibility to use his social media platform to introduce others from similar backgrounds to “new ideas.”

Nick also expressed gratitude to his “gay friends” for reaching out and encouraging him to use his platform for positive change. He thanked viewers for holding him accountable, stating, “Because yes, it was cut up and edited, but I need to take accountability too.”

In the caption of his post, Nick emphasized that he would love his future children unconditionally, regardless of how they identify, and vowed to continue working on himself to become a “better ally.”
