Julian Fleming is facing multiple felony charges, including homicide, in connection with an ATV crash that killed his partner, Alyssa Boyd, in May. According to The Athletic, the former Penn State wide receiver has also been charged with driving under the influence and aggravated assault by vehicle.
Alyssa Boyd was from Bloomsburg and was born on February 3, 2002, to David L. Jr. and Lorie A. Boyd (née Yeager). The 23-year-old graduated from Central Columbia High School in 2020, according to her GoFundMe page. As mentioned in her obituary, Alyssa was studying psychology at the University of Alabama.
A member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Alyssa was an active athlete who played several sports. She played soccer for the WAVE U14 soccer club and also competed in basketball, track, and hurdles during high school. Her obituary also mentioned that she had recently started playing golf.
Alyssa is survived by her parents, David Jr. and Lorie, her brother, Zachary, and her grandparents, David Sr. and Janet Boyd. Her maternal grandparents, Larry and MaryAnn Yeager, passed away earlier. After her death, friends from the University of Alabama started a GoFundMe campaign to support her family.
“All money will go directly to the Boyd family and any additional funds will be used for a memorial scholarship in Alyssa’s name. Thank you so much.”
The campaign, launched with a goal of $10,000, has raised $85,531 so far, with 711 donations.
Julian Fleming was seriously injured in the ATV crash
On May 23, 2025, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star was driving an All-terrain vehicle with Alyssa in the passenger seat. The couple was heading north on Painter Lick Lane in Columbia Township, Bradford County, when a deer suddenly collided with their ATV around 8:13 p.m., according to a report from the Pennsylvania State Police – Towanda.
Julian Fleming suffered serious injuries, while Alyssa Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene. The former Penn State player was taken to Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Authorities confirmed that neither Fleming nor Boyd was wearing any safety equipment at the time of the crash.
Months later, on October 8, 2025, Julian Fleming was arraigned in court and charged with several felonies. His attorney, David Bahuriak, said the judge set his bail at $75,000, which his family plans to pay. Bahuriak told The Athletic:
“This was a tragic accident for everyone involved. Our hearts go out to the family of the young woman, but there is no crime here.”
Court documents obtained by The Athletic revealed that Fleming’s blood-alcohol level was between .10 and .16 percent on the day of the accident, which is above Pennsylvania’s legal limit of .08 percent.
