A family from El Paso, Texas, has accused an ICE agent of fatally shooting their Rottweiler, Chop, during an alleged raid on September 9, 2025. According to KFOX14, the family, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that the incident occurred after federal agents entered their home.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that a “use of force incident” involving a canine took place at the location and stated that the matter is under investigation. “A U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in a use of force incident in El Paso, Texas, during an investigation into human smuggling operations,” the agency’s statement read. “The use of force is being reviewed by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility in accordance with CBP policies.”
KFOX14 further noted that the event allegedly happened on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The homeowner’s father stated that his son’s residence was raided early that morning by multiple ICE agents dressed in jeans and t-shirts.
According to the family’s account, the homeowner cooperated fully with the agents and allowed them inside, mentioning that his dog might become defensive and asking to keep Chop secured in the bedroom. He reportedly left the dog inside and stepped out to retrieve his ID from his pickup truck after being asked for identification.
The family alleges that, during his brief absence, the agents opened the bedroom door, allowing Chop to come out before shooting him. The homeowner returned to find his injured dog and attempted to render aid, while the agents allegedly stood by without offering assistance. When he demanded to know which agent fired the fatal shot, the individual reportedly concealed his identity.
Chop succumbed to his injuries on the kitchen floor. The agents, according to the family, later claimed they were investigating potential undocumented migrants based on an anonymous tip linked to a previous resident who had lived there two years earlier.
WeRateDogs Condemns ICE Over the Incident
The viral social media platform WeRateDogs, with more than 9 million followers on X, nearly 5 million on Instagram, around 3.4 million on TikTok, and over 1.5 million on Facebook, strongly criticized the alleged actions of the ICE agents.
On October 14, 2025, WeRateDogs posted Chop’s story, including his picture and a censored image depicting the aftermath — blood stains, bullet casings, and the dog’s lifeless body. The post drew massive attention, amassing over 113,000 reactions and more than 9,000 comments.
The page condemned the agents, calling the Border Patrol officers “losers,” and urged followers never to permit them entry into their homes. “Unfortunately, the agent who shot his dog went free. Even more upsetting, they said they were looking for migrants. Do we let them into our homes? Hell no!” the post read.
Outraged comments flooded the platform as users expressed disbelief and anger over the incident. Investigations into the ICE agents’ alleged killing of Chop remain ongoing.
