Who is Besim Muminovic? Tributes Pour In After Flag Football Player Dies in Brooklyn Crash

Brooklyn, New York — The sports community is mourning the loss of Besim Muminovic, a 28-year-old former Nassau Lions flag football player, who tragically died in a traffic accident on  October 21, 2025.

According to ABC7 New York, a white Mercedes-Benz sedan and a motorcycle collided on the Belt Parkway near the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. Police said the Mercedes was speeding westbound when it struck the motorcycle while exiting toward Shore Parkway.

Surveillance footage captured the car losing control, crashing into parked vehicles, and flipping over. The motorcyclist, later identified as Besim Muminovic, died instantly. The front-seat passenger of the Mercedes also suffered critical injuries and later died in the hospital.

Police confirmed that the driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the injured passenger behind. The NYPD is now actively searching for the suspect.

Community shaken by the tragic loss

The accident also damaged a nurse’s parked car near the site. She told ABC7 NY that she had just returned home after a long hospital shift: “Thank God I wasn’t sitting in it. If I had been there, it could’ve been worse. It’s just a car — I’m thankful to be alive.”

Friends, former teammates, and community members expressed heartbreak over Muminovic’s death, flooding social media with tributes.

Deuce Dutch, a Manhattan resident, wrote: “NEW ERA FLAG FOOTBALL TOOK A LOSS LAST NIGHT.

I’ve refereed this kid’s games over several seasons — this story is sad. RIP Besim Brady Muminovic.”

Robby Wommack from Queens added: “When I tell you this thing we call life is so crazy… I mean it. RIP lil bro 🙏🏾 Besim Brady Muminovic.”

His former teammate Elkwaun Darling remembered him as a “brother on and off the field,” writing: “Glad we got to play one more time together yesterday. Rest in peace, my guy — love always.”

Kevaun Dunn, who attended Flushing High School and Nassau Community College with Besim, said: “Didn’t even want to write this. Rest in peace, brother. Watch over your mother and all of us.”

Who is Besim Muminovic?

Born in 1996, Besim Muminovic was the son of Montenegrin immigrants — his father, Rasim, hailed from Plav, and his mother was from Bijelo Polje. He grew up in Astoria, Queens, where he developed a passion for sports early on.

Besim attended Flushing High School, where his athletic talent stood out, before continuing to Nassau Community College, playing for the Nassau Lions football program. Friends described him as dedicated, humble, and full of energy, both on and off the field.

As the investigation continues, the NYPD urges anyone with information about the fleeing Mercedes driver to come forward.
