Who is Lorraine Pascale? Personal Life, Career, Achievements, & More
Lorraine Pascale is a British model turned television presenter and chef who first captivated audiences in 2011 and has since built a prominent career in the culinary and media worlds.
Born in Hackney in 1972, Lorraine was placed into foster care soon after birth and adopted by a family in Oxfordshire when she was just 18 months old. Following her adoptive parents’ divorce when she was three, she lived primarily with her mother, who later fell ill, resulting in Lorraine being placed back into foster care before ultimately returning to her mother’s care.
Educated at a boarding school in Devon, Lorraine’s life took a turn when she was discovered by the same talent agent who scouted supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Today, she draws upon her personal experiences of adoption to advocate for others as the patron of TACT, the UK’s largest fostering and adoption charity.
Lorraine Pascale’s Modelling Career
At 16, Lorraine was discovered by the agent who launched Naomi Campbell’s career. She quickly rose to prominence in the fashion world, becoming the first Black British model to grace the cover of Elle Magazine.
Her modelling career flourished, featuring appearances in Sports Illustrated and a role as one of Robbie Williams’ “Bong Girls” in his Millennium music video.
From Modelling to the Kitchen
After leaving modelling, Lorraine pursued her growing passion for cooking by enrolling at Leith’s School of Food and Wine. Although she began working in various London restaurants, she soon realised that the demanding restaurant environment was not her true calling.
Instead, she channelled her talent into baking, establishing herself as a cake maker and supplying luxury department stores such as Selfridges.
Her big break came in January 2011 when she presented her first BBC show, Baking Made Easy. The programme’s success led to two further BBC cookery series, firmly cementing her reputation as a television chef.
Lorraine has also co-presented My Kitchen Rules alongside Jason Atherton on Sky Living and co-hosted The Nation’s Favourite Food with the Hairy Bikers. She continues to make occasional appearances on Loose Women.
Personal Struggles and Advocacy
Lorraine has been open about her battle with eating disorders, candidly sharing her experiences through a personal blog. A fitness enthusiast, she often posts workout content and nutritious meals on Instagram, promoting both physical and mental well-being.
In her reflective post, she wrote, “I have spent so many years not liking bits of my body and being that voice within that berates, judges and compares.
I have picked on myself physically (and mentally) so much in the past and the result usually is me going to the shops to eat too much of something.
I spend a minute eating it and then the rest of the weekend/week beating myself up for doing so and feeling crappy about my body. And so the cycle continues as the beating-up-of-the-self moves me to again ‘emotionally eat’ for that fleeting moment of feeling better.”
Through her honesty and resilience, Lorraine Pascale continues to inspire others by sharing her journey from foster care to international success.
