Who Are Björn Andrésen’s Children? Exploring the Death in Venice Star’s Personal Life
Swedish actor Björn Andrésen, best known for his role in Death in Venice (1971), passed away on Saturday at the age of 70. The news was confirmed to Dagens Nyheter by Kristian Petri, co-director of The Most Beautiful Boy in the World (2021), a documentary exploring Andrésen’s life and career.
The cause of death has not been disclosed. Remembering him, Petri said, “He had an incredible charisma and presence in front of the camera. That’s what I think about most now. All the fantastic moments with him. He was a brave person.”
Early Life and Family
Born on January 26, 1955, in Stockholm, Björn was once married to poet Susanna Roman, with whom he had two children, Robine and Elvin. Their younger son, Elvin, tragically died at nine months old from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The Loss of Elvin
In a 2020 interview, Andrésen recalled waking up to his wife’s scream and discovering Elvin’s blue lips. Despite his efforts to revive him, the infant could not be saved. The tragedy led Björn into depression and alcoholism, as he revealed in the documentary: “Their diagnosis is sudden infant death syndrome but my diagnosis is lack of love. The family collapsed. I descended into depression, alcohol, self-destruction.”
Susanna Roman’s Tribute
On June 15, 2025, Susanna shared a touching Instagram tribute, revisiting the day she lost her son. She described vivid details — Elvin in his highchair, the green apple she bit into, and the shirt she wore that morning — moments etched in her memory forever.
Remembering Björn Andrésen
Though Robine remains private, she shared a heartfelt tribute to her father online, alongside family photos. Björn’s legacy endures through his art and the memories of those who loved him.
