Who Was Al Davis’ Wife? Everything About Carol Davis as Raider’s Former Co-Owner Passes Away

27 October, 2025 15:34

Carol Davis, the former co-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and widow of the team’s legendary figure Al Davis, passed away on Friday at the age of 93, the team announced.

Known affectionately as the “First Lady of Raider Nation,” Carol served as a vital and enduring presence within the franchise for more than six decades. The Raiders organization paid homage to her enduring legacy, stating, “Carol provided unbridled support and unparalleled guidance to the Davis family and the Raiders organization for over 60 years. Her direct impact on the Greatness of the Raiders continues to be felt, cherished, and honored, and is woven into the fabric of this historic franchise.”

Early Years and Lifelong Partnership

Carol’s association with the Raiders began in the early 1960s, when Al Davis took over as head coach and general manager. The couple, married in 1954, shared a lifelong commitment marked by mutual respect, resilience, and a shared devotion to football.

Following Al Davis’s death in 2011, Carol continued her involvement with the team alongside their son, Mark Davis, who assumed ownership. Although she preferred to remain out of the public eye, she remained an influential and admired figure at pivotal organizational events.

Legacy and Contributions

In 2020, Carol became the first person to light the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium, symbolically honoring her late husband during the Raiders’ inaugural game in Las Vegas. She also represented the team at numerous milestone moments, including the 2017 groundbreaking ceremony of the stadium and the 2021 Hall of Fame induction of former Raiders coach Tom Flores.

Health Challenges and Enduring Strength

More than four decades ago, Carol survived a severe heart attack and stroke, remaining in a coma for 23 days. Remarkably, she awoke with her memory intact and went on to accompany her husband and son to countless games over the years.

Final Tributes

On Sunday, Mark Davis honored his mother’s memory by lighting the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium before the team’s game — a symbolic gesture reflecting the lasting influence of both his parents on the franchise.

A private funeral service will be held in Oakland, California, followed by a public celebration of Carol Davis’s life.
