Who Was Patrick Dela Rosa? All About 1980s Filipino Actor’s Career & Life After His Passing

28 October, 2025 11:05

Patrick Dela Rosa, a celebrated Filipino actor of the 1980s who later transitioned into politics, has passed away at the age of 64. The news was confirmed by his nephew, Joram Dela Rosa, in a Facebook post on October 27, 2025. The family has yet to disclose details regarding the cause, time, or location of his death.

Dela Rosa gained prominence through his performances in several notable Filipino films, including Kristo, Ping Lacson: Super Cop, Sisingilin Ko ng Dugo, Ex-Con, and Suspek. His dynamic screen presence made him one of the recognizable faces of Philippine cinema during that era.

Following his retirement from acting, Dela Rosa ventured into public service. He served as a Quezon City councilor before joining the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro as a board member, where he later held the post of acting vice governor. After concluding his political career, he relocated to California, where he lived a more private life.

In a heartfelt Facebook tribute, Joram Dela Rosa expressed gratitude for his uncle’s “kindness, love, and presence,” acknowledging the profound impact Patrick had on his life. He thanked him for his lifelong guidance and vowed that the family would always honor his memory.

Earlier this year, in April 2025, Dela Rosa granted an interview to ABS-CBN News, reflecting on his life in California and his departure from the entertainment industry. He mentioned that his last acting role was in 2007 and that he had since focused on managing his own business.
“So now, I’m in business, so I’m based in California… I would say my life is really different now. I like it better now because it’s simpler. It’s not like when [I was] an artist. I can go anywhere, I can walk anywhere, so… my life is different now because I’m a businessman now,” he shared.

When asked for a message to Filipinos, Dela Rosa urged voters to choose “the right one” in the upcoming midterm elections—someone who would work for the welfare of the people.
“This coming election, I call on Filipinos to choose the right one. I don’t care who, but let’s choose the right one who will help everyone, especially our poor countrymen. Let’s know who is the right one… the one we will vote for that will help our future,” he stated.

Tributes have poured in across social media from fans mourning the former actor and politician. The Provincial Information Office of Oriental Mindoro also issued a statement thanking Dela Rosa for his dedicated service as a board member.

Details regarding his memorial service have not been announced at this time.
