Australian singer Sia and her estranged husband Daniel Bernad are caught in a bitter custody battle over their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. The legal fight turned public after Daniel accused Sia of drug abuse and being an unfit mother.

Daniel Bernad Files for Sole Custody

According to court papers filed on October 7, Daniel Bernad requested sole custody of their son, who was born in March 2024. He claimed Sia is “an unreliable parent” and is struggling with substance addiction.

Bernad said that the singer’s “reckless behavior” puts their child’s safety at risk. He also asked for $77,245 per month in child support.

Who Is Daniel Bernad?

Daniel Bernad is the CEO and co-founder of Modern Medicine Services, a health practice based in Los Angeles. His LinkedIn profile mentions that he studied at the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and McGill University.

However, he revealed in court that he is now unemployed and financially dependent on Sia. He claimed that the singer stopped funding their joint business, Modern Medicine, and ended his salary.

Sia Denies Drug Use Allegations

In response, Sia filed her own statement on October 28, denying all claims. She stated, “I have been fully sober for more than six months and take weekly tests to stay accountable.”

Sia said she has already given Daniel $300,000 since their split in March 2025 and that his repeated custody requests are only for financial gain.

The singer also added that she left Daniel because of his “nightlife and drug-use lifestyle,” which she felt was not healthy for their child.

Sia and Daniel’s Relationship Timeline

Sia and Daniel Bernad made their relationship public in December 2021 at the West Side Story premiere. They married two years later in Portofino, Italy, in a private ceremony with just four guests.

Their son, Somersault, was born on March 27, 2024. However, in March 2025, Sia filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

At the time, she requested both legal and physical custody of their son and declined any spousal support.

Allegations of Nannies and Neglect

Bernad also accused Sia of not taking a direct role in raising their child. He claimed she relied heavily on nannies for caregiving while managing everything “from a distance.”

Sia denied this, saying their son “has always been under my care.” She also mentioned that Daniel never had more than “two hours of unsupervised custody.”

Sia added that Daniel was under investigation by the LAPD and Child and Family Services for possession of child pornography, but both investigations have been closed.

Ongoing Legal Drama

As the custody case continues, both sides remain firm in their statements. Sia maintains her sobriety and stability, while Daniel insists he only wants what’s best for their son.

The court will decide custody in the coming weeks.
