Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star Masika Kalysha is mourning the tragic loss of her estranged husband, Jamar Champ, who died in a car crash during the early hours of October 28. The reality TV personality, 40, confirmed the heartbreaking news on X (formerly Twitter) and shared a similar message on her Instagram Stories, asking followers to keep the family in their prayers.

According to KVRR, Jamar Champ, 38, was once a wide receiver for North Dakota State University’s football team, coached by Craig Bohl in 2005. He was redshirted in 2006 and eventually departed from the team.

Details of the Fatal Crash

As reported by KHOU 11, the fatal collision occurred late Monday night along the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10) in Texas. A BMW traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes crashed head-on with a Tesla Cybertruck just before the Washington Ave exit near Westcott Street.

The BMW burst into flames upon impact, while the Tesla was thrown off course, colliding with an 18-wheeler truck, which also sustained front-end damage. Houston Police Sergeant Rebecca Dallas stated that authorities received reports of the incident around 12:00 a.m.

The BMW driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Tesla driver was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The driver and passengers of the 18-wheeler were unharmed and remained witnesses to the crash. Jamar Champ’s family later confirmed to KHOU 11 that he had been driving the Cybertruck.

Earlier this year, Jamar had shared photos of his Tesla vehicle on Instagram.

Masika Requests Privacy

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Masika Kalysha took to Instagram to plead with bloggers to refrain from posting about Jamar’s death until she personally addressed it.

“I understand that blogs have a job too. I just ask, respectfully, that you guys refrain from posting information until I do,” she wrote.

Masika explained that she wanted to protect her children from finding out through social media:

“‘Word spreads fast to children and although my kids aren’t on social media, a lot of their friends are. and a lot of their parents are. And I don’t want my kids to find out in school before I can tell them.’”

She emphasized her wish to personally inform her children before the news reached them through others.

Relationship History

Jamar Champ reportedly pursued Masika for ten years before they began dating in 2020. The couple became engaged four months later, but Masika soon called off the engagement, claiming that Jamar was attempting to use her fame for personal gain.

Despite the brief split, the pair reconciled and married in 2021. They later welcomed a daughter, Amari Hermes Champ, in 2022. Jamar also became a father figure to Masika’s elder daughter, Khari Barbie, whom she shares with rapper Fetty Wap.

Masika once revealed that Khari began calling Jamar “daddy” at the age of four, recalling her initial discomfort:

“I remember when she first started calling him daddy. I was like… I couldn’t believe it. It was very uncomfortable for me at first.”

Masika said she had suggested alternative names, but Khari insisted:

“He loves me. He takes care of me. I’ll call him daddy.”

Jamar frequently expressed his affection for both girls on Instagram, once writing:

“I don’t do for one without doing for the other although my step daughter have a pops I still treat them the exact same with unconditional love.”

Separation and Legal Status

In 2024, Masika filed for an annulment of her marriage to Jamar Champ. By August 2024, Jamar referred to himself as “divorced” in an Instagram caption, though it remains unclear whether the process had been legally finalized.
