Her family confirmed that she died peacefully in Dorset, describing her final days as filled with family, music, warmth, Christmas, and joy. Kinsella was the acclaimed author behind the global bestseller Becky Bloomwood series, which sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

A former financial journalist, Kinsella initially published under her real name before adopting her pen name with The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic, which launched a wave of comic, voice-driven fiction defining the early 2000s. Sophie Kinsella’s family released a statement via BBC News on Instagram, saying, “She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.” The AP News report confirms she had been diagnosed with glioblastoma at the end of 2022 but kept her illness private until 2024. In an Instagram post on April 17, 2024, Kinsella wrote,

“At the end of 2022 I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer.” She added, “I did not share this before because I wanted to make sure that my children were able to hear and process the news in privacy and adapt to our ‘new normal.’”

She is survived by her husband, Henry Wickham, and their five children.
