New KIA SUV set to debut in Pakistan
Following the footsteps of rivals, KIA is set to introduce new electric SUV in Pakistan, marking a significant step in the countryβs electric vehicle market.
According to Lucky Motor CEP, Mohammad Faisal, the KIAβs flagship SUV, the EV9, will be launched soon, along with plans for a more compact model, the EV3, in the future.
The new EVs will be imported as completely built units (CBUs).
Following the successful debut of the KIA EV5 in October 2024, the company is optimistic about the growing demand for electric vehicles in Pakistan.
The EV5 variants include the long-range Earth model, capable of 620 km on a single charge, priced at Rs23 million, and the short-range Air model, which offers 480 km for Rs18.5 million.
To help Pakistan move towards EVs, the government is planning to establish 3,500 charging stations in collaboration with a Chinese firm.
Faisal expressed skepticism about the ambitious target to increase the share of EVs to 30% of total sales by 2030, estimating it may only reach 10%.
