Karachi Red Bus latest Fare update – February 2025

17 February, 2025 14:54

The Sindh government has approved a fare increase of up to 60% for the People’s Bus Service (PBS), effective February 1, 2025.

The decision aims to cover rising operational costs after route expansions. The National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), which manages PBS, has implemented the new fare structure.

New PBS Fare Structure

According to officials, fares have increased by 20% to 60% on different routes. The updated rates are displayed on buses to inform passengers in advance. PBS fares now range between Rs 50 and Rs 100, depending on the travel distance.

This change will affect daily commuters, including office workers and students.

Sindh Govt to Introduce 8,000 E-Buses

Along with the fare revision, the Sindh government plans to introduce 8,000 electric buses (e-buses) into PBS over the next four years. In the first phase, 1,500 e-buses will be added in 2025 to enhance urban mobility and reduce environmental impact.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The National Energy and Transport Corporation (NETC), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Defense Production’s NRTC, has designed a phased plan. Currently, 50 e-buses are operational, with 1,500 more set to arrive in the first year.

The fare hike and fleet expansion reflect efforts to modernize public transport while maintaining financial sustainability. Commuters are advised to stay updated on fare changes and the upcoming e-buses in Sindh.
