Expected petrol price in Pakistan: Fuel rates drop from March 16
Pakistan is likely to witness a significant reduction in petrol prices from March 16, as the government prepares for its second fortnightly review amid falling global oil prices.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has yet to submit its official recommendations to the government regarding petroleum price adjustments for the second half of March 2025.
However, reports indicate that petrol prices may be reduced by Rs13 to Rs15 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) could see a decrease of Rs11 per litre.
If approved, the price cut would provide much-needed relief to the public, who are anticipating the benefits of declining inflation in the country. The expectation for a sharp drop in fuel prices follows a significant decline in global oil rates, largely driven by an ongoing trade war between major economies.
As of March 11, Brent crude futures registered a slight dip of 6 cents, or 0.1%, bringing the price to $69.22 per barrel, continuing a downward trend for the second consecutive day.
Current and Expected Petrol Prices in Pakistan
At present, petrol is being sold at Rs255.63 per litre, while high-speed diesel costs Rs258.64 per litre in Pakistan.
If the proposed price cut is implemented, petrol could drop to Rs242.63 per litre with a Rs13 reduction, or further to Rs240.63 per litre with a Rs15 cut.
Similarly, high-speed diesel prices may decline to Rs247.64 per litre if the government approves an Rs11 reduction. The final decision on revised petroleum prices is expected to be announced on March 15.
