How to get fresh currency notes for Eidul Fitr from Banks – Check here

24 March, 2025 14:05

As Eidul Fitr 2025 approaches, the demand for fresh currency notes is increasing across Pakistan. These crisp new bills are mainly used as Eidi, a traditional gift given to children and young relatives during Eid celebrations.

In markets and homes, festive preparations are in full swing. However, for many families—especially parents—getting new currency notes remains a top priority. “Customers can visit their banks with a copy of their CNIC to request new notes,” a bank official explained. “If the stock is available, notes are given immediately.”

Role of the State Bank

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) plays a key role in supplying fresh currency notes. Contrary to public belief, commercial banks cannot request a specific amount from SBP. Instead, the central bank decides how many notes each bank will receive.

“Sometimes, the State Bank doesn’t issue new notes at all, and banks cannot challenge this decision,” said a manager at a private bank.

Limited Stock, Quick Shortages

According to bankers, fresh note supplies are limited and often run out within days. This year, new notes arrived around the 15th of Ramadan but were quickly exhausted due to high demand.

In the past, SBP offered a digital token service where customers could send a code via SMS and collect notes from designated branches. However, this system was discontinued. Now, people must personally visit banks with their CNIC to get new currency.

How Many Notes Do Banks Get?

Each bank branch usually receives:

  • 8 to 10 bundles of Rs 10 notes

  • 3 to 4 bundles of Rs 100 notes

  • 1 to 2 bundles of Rs 20 notes

  • A small number of Rs 50 notes

Each bundle contains 10 packets, which means a branch gets 80 to 100 bundles total. With hundreds of customers visiting, meeting everyone’s needs becomes difficult.

Customer Limits

To ensure fair distribution, most banks allow each customer to receive Rs 16,000 to Rs 18,000 worth of new notes. These include a mix of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, and Rs 100 denominations.
