29 March, 2025 14:40

As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, a sharp increase in chicken prices has been observed in major cities like Peshawar and Lahore, with local authorities struggling to regulate rates.

Chicken Prices in Peshawar

In Peshawar, the price of live broiler chicken surged by Rs40 per kilogram in a single day, rising from Rs500 to Rs540. Similarly, the price of chicken meat has increased by Rs70 per kilogram, now selling at Rs870 instead of the previous Rs800.

Chicken Prices in Lahore

According to the official price list, the government has set the price of chicken meat in Lahore at Rs595 per kilogram, while a dozen eggs are officially priced at Rs264. The wholesale price of live broiler chicken has been fixed at Rs397 per kilogram, with the retail price set at Rs411 per kilogram.

However, actual market rates tell a different story. In several parts of Lahore, chicken meat is being sold for Rs700 to Rs750 per kilogram, while boneless chicken is priced between Rs1,100 and Rs1,250 per kilogram. Live broiler chicken in the wholesale market is reportedly being sold at Rs450 to Rs470 per kilogram, exceeding the government’s fixed rates.

With Eid just around the corner, consumers are expressing concerns over the rising prices and urging authorities to take effective measures to stabilize the poultry market.
