Steel prices in Pakistan – Latest rates for April 2025

08 April, 2025 14:07

The price of construction steel is a crucial factor for builders and homeowners, as it significantly impacts the overall cost of a construction project. It has been reported that prices for local steel are about Rs226,000 per ton at the low end of the spectrum and Rs232,000 per ton at the high end of the spectrum.

Of note, the price is also dependent on the city: for example, Karachi has a price of Rs232,000 per ton; in Lahore the price is Rs228,000 per ton; in Multan, it is again Rs226,000 per ton; and in Islamabad the price is Rs230,000 per ton.

Faisalabad too has the same price as Multan at Rs226,000 per ton. Branded steel is more expensive than local steel; for example branded steel is priced at between Rs244,000 and Rs254,000 per ton.

Since November, the price for construction steel has dropped from between Rs5,000 to Rs8,000 per ton, which gives some relief to builders.

In the cement industry, the local dispatches were also down. In March 2025, local cement dispatches were 2.961 million tons, compared to 3.338 million tons in March 2024, a decrease of 11.31%. The exports were steady, showing 608,614 tons in March 2025, versus 605,142 tons a year ago.

Overall, total cement dispatches in March 2025 were 3.569 million tons, down 9.48% from March 2024.

Cement mills of northern origin saw a sizeable decrease, reporting 2.45 million tons of cement dispatched in March 2025, dropping 14.54%.

In the south, cement dispatches rose slightly, reporting 1.12 million tons of cement dispatched, up by 3.96% of the previous year. North-based mills saw a sharp decrease in exports at -85.15%, while south-based mill exports were positive at +22.82% year-on-year.

During the first three quarters of the fiscal-year period, total cement dispatches are reported at 33.993 million tons. This is a slight decline of 1.48% from the same timeframe in the prior year. Domestic dispatches dropped by 6.61%, while exports improved by 28.08%.

Mills in the northern region reduced domestic dispatches by 5.96% and increased exports by 7.76%. Mills in the southern region reported a reduction in domestic dispatches by 9.63%, while exports rose substantially for that region, by 33.28%. Overall, the total dispatches from mills in the southern region rose by 9.26% during this time.
