40 kg Wheat Rate in Pakistan Today – Gandum New Rate by gov of Punjab for 2025

40 kg Wheat Rate in Pakistan Today - Gandum New Rate by gov of Punjab for 2025
The government’s promised wheat support prices for 2025 are not helping farmers who face heavy losses. In Punjab, the official price is Rs2,900 per 40kg while Sindh offers Rs3,000.
But in markets across Pakistan, wheat is selling for just Rs2,200-2,450 per 40kg – far below what farmers need to survive.
Why Farmers Are Losing Money
It costs about Rs110,000 to grow one acre of wheat after paying for land, fertilizer and other inputs. At current prices, farmers lose Rs20,000-30,000 on every acre they harvest. They need at least Rs3,500 per 40kg just to cover costs, but buyers won’t pay that much.
What Went Wrong?
- No Government Buying
The Punjab government hasn’t started purchasing wheat at the promised Rs2,900 rate, leaving farmers no choice but to sell cheaply to private buyers. - Too Much Wheat in Market
Despite growing a record 32 million tons last year, Pakistan imported 3.5 million more tons. This extra supply crashed prices. - Everything Costs More
Fertilizer prices jumped sharply and electricity became more expensive, making wheat more costly to grow than ever before.
Farmers Protest for Survival
Angry growers have held protests across Punjab, demanding:
- Higher support price of Rs4,000 per 40kg
- Immediate government wheat purchases
Many say they will stop growing wheat next year if nothing changes. Some have already switched to other crops after losing money last season too.
