Solar panel new prices in Pakistan for April 2025

Solar panel prices in Pakistan have dropped sharply after the government announced plans to cut the rates it pays to people who sell extra solar electricity back to the grid (called net metering).

This news has created a lot of uncertainty in the solar industry, with many people worried about what’s next.

Solar panel prices in Hyderabad and other parts of Sindh have decreased by about 25%. A quality 585-watt solar panel, which would previously sell for about Rs. 22,000, is now selling for about Rs. 16,500.

While the government wanted to promote renewable energy by lowering net metering rates, in the last year, it has had the opposite impact of reducing demand and prices in the market.

Industry Reaction

The Pakistan Solar Association fiercely opposed the government decision. At a press conference, Chairman Adil Mahmood also expressed that the government’s decision is detrimental to the solar sector and all of the businesses and citizens who have invested in this industry.

He said the government had earlier encouraged people to go solar, including support from the prime minister and president. But now, they’ve taken a complete “U-turn” by reducing net metering rates.
