Ogra cuts LPG prices by Rs3 per kg for May 2025
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for May 2025, offering relief to households and businesses. The new rates, effective immediately, include a Rs. 3 per kilogram cut in LPG prices.
Key Price Changes
Domestic Cylinder (11.8 kg): Reduced by Rs. 38, now priced at Rs. 2,931 per cylinder.
Commercial Cylinder (45.4 kg): Slashed by Rs. 145, now costing Rs. 11,276 per cylinder.
This marks the second consecutive month of price reductions, signaling a downward trend in energy costs.
While OGRA did not specify reasons, analysts link the drop to declining global oil prices and improved supply chains. LPG prices in Pakistan are adjusted monthly based on international market rates and local production costs. The recent strengthening of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar may also have contributed to the cut.
Impact on Households and Businesses
LPG is widely used in Pakistan for cooking and heating, especially in areas without natural gas pipelines. The Rs. 38 reduction per domestic cylinder will ease monthly expenses for families. For commercial users like restaurants and factories, the Rs. 145 cut per cylinder could lower operational costs significantly.
“Even small reductions help us manage budgets,” said Ayesha Khan, a homemaker from Lahore. “LPG is essential for daily cooking.”
Comparison to Previous Months
In April 2025, domestic LPG cylinders sold for Rs. 2,969, while commercial cylinders were priced at Rs. 11,421. The new rates reflect a 1.3% decrease for households and a 1.27% drop for businesses. Over the past year, LPG prices have fluctuated due to global crises and currency instability, but recent trends suggest stabilization.
