Banks to remain closed from Friday to Monday

Labor Day 2025: Banks will remain close nationwide on May 1
In observance of Eid-ul-Adha 2025, banks across Pakistan will remain closed for four consecutive days, from Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9, 2025.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced the closure on Tuesday, confirming that all banks and financial institutions will remain shut during this official public holiday period.
“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed from June 06 to June 09, 2025 (Friday to Monday) being public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha,” said the SBP in its official notice.
This announcement follows the federal government’s earlier declaration of a four-day holiday for Eid celebrations, providing citizens with an extended break.
What is Eid-ul-Adha?
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world. It falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The holiday commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. However, God provided a ram in his place. To honor this event, Muslims perform qurbani (ritual animal sacrifice) and distribute the meat among family, friends, and those in need.
Celebrations traditionally last for four days, including the three Tashreeq days that follow the main day of Eid.
Banking and Business Impact
With the four-day closure of banks:
ATM services are expected to remain operational.
Online banking services may experience slower response due to high usage.
Customers are advised to complete any urgent banking transactions before Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Stock exchanges and many government offices will also follow the public holiday schedule.
