Crackdown Begins: PM Shehbaz Orders Action Against Sugar Mafia

19 June, 2025 16:38

The Government of Pakistan has decided to take strong action against sugar hoarders and those raising prices unfairly. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given orders to stop the artificial increase in sugar prices. He has told different government departments to work together and take quick action.

The agencies involved include the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and the State Bank of Pakistan. These departments will now have full authority to investigate and act against people or groups who are hiding sugar, increasing prices on purpose, or working together to control the market.

Sugar prices in Pakistan have gone very high. In some areas, the price has reached Rs. 180 per kilogram. This happened even though the government recently announced a fixed retail price of Rs. 164 per kilogram. This shows that some traders are not following the rules and are trying to make more profit by creating a shortage.

The Prime Minister has asked for fast action. Raids and checks will take place in different areas. Those found guilty will face legal action. The goal is to bring sugar prices down and make sure people can buy it at a fair price.

This move is important because sugar is a basic need for every household. When prices go too high, it becomes hard for common people to afford. The government wants to protect consumers and stop anyone from taking advantage of the situation.
