Pakistan to Import 500,000 Tonnes of Sugar to Control Prices

Sugar rate in Pakistan today: New average and top prices revealed
The Government of Pakistan has announced the import of 500,000 tonnes of sugar to control rising prices and ensure smooth supply across the country.
The decision was taken by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. A spokesperson said that the step was necessary to protect consumers from further price hikes.
“There is a wrong impression that we have enough sugar stock. In reality, the local supply is not enough for public needs,” said the ministry.
Last season, Pakistan had surplus sugar and allowed its export. However, officials now say the domestic market needs more sugar to meet current demand.
The ministry clarified that no subsidy was given for sugar exports in the past. It also stated that agricultural product sales depend on seasonal needs, not the financial year.
Officials added that under the new policy, all agricultural trade has been deregulated.
They believe that importing sugar will increase the overall stock and help maintain a balance in market prices.
The government said the main goal is to provide relief to the people and keep sugar affordable for daily use.
