During June 2025, tea imports totaled 19,804 metric tons, amounting to $49.7 million (approximately Rs. 14.18 billion). This marked a 16.94% decrease in volume from May 2025, which saw imports of 21,971 metric tons worth nearly $60 million.
No Ban on Tea Imports Despite Forex Pressure
Even though there have been calls to restrict non-essential imports to safeguard foreign reserves, tea has never been included in the list. “Pakistanis cannot get over it,” say experts, noting that tea is considered a daily essential.
