Milk retailers threaten of Rs300 per liter price uplift from October 11
Tensions are rising in Karachi as milk retailers and wholesalers have warned the city administration that if new prices are not officially announced, they will start selling milk at Rs300 per liter from October 11.
According to reports, disagreements between dairy farmers and the Karachi administration have grown serious. Dairy farmers and wholesalers say they can no longer wait for government approval, while the administration insists that milk quality must first be checked before any price increase.
A meeting was recently held with representatives of dairy farmers, wholesalers, retailers, consumers, and city officials. During the meeting, Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi said the new milk price will only be decided after testing the quality of milk available in the market.
To do this, a committee has been formed that includes officials from relevant departments and consumer representatives. The committee will collect 50 milk samples from different areas of Karachi — including from farmers, retailers, and wholesalers.
The samples will be tested by PSQCA (Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority), and a detailed report will be prepared within seven days.
Until then, the final decision on the new milk price in Karachi remains pending, while retailers continue to push for an immediate price hike.
