Karachi Commissioner announces new food prices list – 17 October 2025
KARACHI: The Commissioner of Karachi has released new official prices for food items in the city to help control rising market rates.
According to the updated list, the price of live chicken has been fixed at Rs250 per kilogram, while a dozen eggs will now cost Rs307.
Among vegetables, Grade-1 potatoes are priced at Rs69 per kilogram, onions at Rs86 per kilogram, and tomatoes at Rs230 per kilogram.
For fruits, Grade-1 bananas are being sold at Rs94 per dozen, golden apples at Rs208 per kilogram, and Kandhari pomegranates at Rs299 per kilogram.
Despite these official rates, many shopkeepers continue to charge higher prices. For example, tomatoes, officially priced at Rs230, are reportedly being sold for Rs300 to Rs400 per kilogram in various markets.
The city administration has warned shopkeepers to follow the official price list strictly. Citizens have also been urged to report any violations. Complaints can be made to the Commissioner’s Control Room by calling 1299 or through WhatsApp at 0316-0111712.
