16 December, 2025 17:14

On Tuesday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) gave in to profit-taking, and the KSE-100 Index fell by nearly 300 points.

The benchmark index closed at 170,447.29, down 294.05 points or 0.17%. Selling was seen across key sectors, including automobiles, cement, fertilizers, oil and gas exploration, OMCs, and power generation.

Earlier, the State Bank of Pakistan’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) surprised the market by cutting the policy rate by 50 basis points. Analysts had expected no change, but the rate was reduced to 10.5%, effective December 16, 2025, to support price stability.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar, rising 16 paisas in early inter-bank trading to 280.15 per USD by 10:05am.
