Pakistan shares five-year petroleum levy collection to IMF
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has submitted its projections for petroleum development levy collections with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the next five years, sources said.
The documents show that the climate support levy will increase by Rs2.5 per liter starting July 1, 2026. The IMF report also includes year-by-year estimates for petroleum levy collections.
For the current fiscal year, collections are expected to reach Rs1,468 billion, rising to Rs1,638 billion next year. Projections for 2027-28 are Rs1,787 billion, 2028-29 Rs1,989 billion, and 2029-30 Rs2,212 billion. Historical data shows collections of Rs1,220 billion last year, Rs1,019 billion in 2023-24, and Rs580 billion in 2022-23.

Currently, the levy on petrol is Rs79.62 per liter and on high-speed diesel Rs75.41 per liter, with the climate support levy of Rs2.5 per liter applied separately to both. These measures aim to maintain government revenue while supporting climate initiatives.
In a recent update, the government announced new petroleum prices: petrol remains unchanged at Rs263.45 per liter, while high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs14 to Rs265.65 per liter.
