SECP Clarifies: Foreign Companies Are Not Leaving Pakistan

26 February, 2026 08:25

ISLAMABAD: Reports claiming that foreign companies are leaving Pakistan are misleading, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) said.

Between 2022 and 2025, only 19 foreign companies ceased operations, while 79 new foreign companies were registered in the same period. The widely cited figure of 125 exits refers to cumulative closures since 1977, not recent years.

The SECP highlighted that foreign investment remains strong, with 82 local companies receiving funding last month from countries including China, the US, UK, Germany, Australia, Turkey, South Korea, and Spain.

As of February 2026, 1,157 foreign companies are registered with the SECP, showing continued international presence in Pakistan’s corporate sector.

Experts say these figures reflect stability in the business environment, countering claims of a mass foreign exit.
